Apologies for the delay. Here are some links for the Harvest research homework:

Harvest festivals around the world (you could pick a couple of countries to research)

Please do not copy lots of writing from websites or books. Note down key words and then write a few sentences or notes in your own words.

Dioramas

On Monday Year 6 got rather creative on their return to Wykeham. They created some rather exciting dioramas showing their highlights from the Kingswood Trip (or the fun week of activities for those who did not go to Norfolk).

See how many activities you can recognise!

Kingswood Trip; Friday

We are all home safe and sound with no-one left behind. We were taking part in activities right up until our final lunch at Kingswood.

Lots of tired and happy faces on the way back. Luckily the children have learned lots of fun songs which they performed for most of the journey.

We have had a great week and are very proud of the children for everything they achieved. Thanks to all parents for their kind comments about the blog, I'm really glad everyone enjoyed the photos.

Kingswood Trip: Thursday

I have torn myself away from the lively last-night disco, to start sorting out the final blog post from Kingswood. Some very impressive moves on display. Really pleased to see loads of comments with messages for the children, will pass them all on.

The weather has been more overcast today, with just a drizzle of rain this evening. We went to the beach this morning for some exciting rock-pooling. The children were very engrossed finding all sorts of fascinating creatures. After that, we headed to the lifeboat museum, which was nice and hands-on, including some dressing up and an opportunity for shopping. This afternoon we somehow managed to fit in two activities before the disco.

We still have more activities tomorrow morning before we head off after lunch. I think everyone will sleep well on the coach- teachers and children alike.

Kingwood Trip: Wednesday

Unbelievably, the good weather has continued. The children have had another lovely and very busy day. This evening, the blog post is a bit earlier, because the children were all contained in their last activity for the day- a scrap-heap challenge, so I was able to start uploading early. Activities have included more leaps of faith, frisbee golf, orienteering, laser tag and adding their own soundtrack to their stop-motion animated movies (will see if I can publish those on youtube after the trip).

Have passed on all the messages in the comments, which the children really liked. Beach tomorrow morning, then more activities and then disco in the evening.

Kingswood Trip: Tuesday

The children have had a really busy packed day and amazingly the weather has stayed beautifully sunny all day! We split off into four groups  and embarked on a full timetable of activities. These included: archery, Jacob's Ladder (a climbing challenge), leap of faith, woodland problem solving, den-building, quad-biking and stop-motion animation.

We ended the day with a murder-mystery evening. So if you see some suspicious characters in one of the slideshows (including a bearded nun) then that explains it.

Looking forward to another full day and a continuation of this lovely weather tomorrow.

We have arrived...

We have safely arrived at Kingswood, and the children are now in their beds after a busy first day. First, we were shown around the site and got to have a peek at some of the exciting facilities we will be using during the week. The children put their bags away in their rooms and made their beds (duvet covers proved a great challenge!)

After the tour, the children had some free time to explore in small groups, play football and frisbee and generally run off some energy. Dinner was chicken, potatoes and vegetables. We managed to fit in our first organised activities (split into our four groups) before joining together again for a camp-fire singing and joke-telling session.

Everyone ended the first day happy and tired. First full day of activities is tomorrow.

Kingswood Trip

Departure arrangements

Just a quick reminder about departure arrangements for Monday. The coach will be leaving at 10am. If parents want to see their children off, then they can arrive at 9:30am. Leave luggage by the KS1 ramp.

If any parents are unable to see their children off at 9:30am, they can bring them into school for 8:45am and say goodbye then.

Parents will then be able to drop off money and medication. Once registered, children will collect their luggage and take it to the coach.

Harvest Festival Assembly

As promised, please find below the videos and lyrics for our harvest assembly songs.

Autumn Days (lyrics included in video)

Harvest for the World

All babies together
Everyone a seed
Half of us are satisfied
Half of us in need
Love’s bountiful in us
Tarnished by our greed
Oh, when will there be
A harvest for the world

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Hey

A nation of plenty
So concerned with gain
As the seasons come and go
Greater grows the pain
And far too many
Feelin’ the strain
Oh, when will there be
A harvest for the world

Yeah, yeah

Gather every man
Gather every woman
Celebrate your lives
Give thanks for your children (No)
Gather everyone (Gather everyone)
Gather all together (Gather all together)
Overlookin’ none (Overlookin’ none)
Hopin’ life gets better for the world

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh

Dress me up for battle
When all I want is peace
Those of us who pay the price
Come home with the least
And nation after nation
Turnin’ into beasts
Oh, when will there be
A harvest for the world

Yeah, hey
When will there be
I wanna know now, now
When will there be a harvest
