Year 6 Athletes Day

Year 6 had a fantastic Athletes day. There were fantastic sporting performances, everyone had fun, lots of parents were there to share in the competition and enjoyment- the rain even held off (for most of the day anyway!)

We took lots of pictures of the action. See the three slideshows below (AM, PM and medal ceremony). A  big thanks goes out to Mr Sheldon and his team of assistants for organising the event and ensuring everything ran smoothly.

Coffee Morning

On Friday 7th June, at 9:30, Year 6 will be holding a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. We have secured some corporate support from Tesco, who will be providing some cakes to sell and ingredients for baking. We will be making some cakes and biscuits at school during the week.

Children have also been busy creating some eye-catching posters for the event.

Periscopes

Year 6 made some periscopes as part of our science work this afternoon.

In this investigation we were trying to make a periscope.

First, we were given a sheet to cut out. Afterwards, we folded the sheet into a type of cylinder shape. Then we sellotaped both of the cylinders and put them around each other to make a larger cylinder. When we had made the cylinder we slipped two mirrors into the cylinder slots. When we looked through one end of the periscope, we could see out of the other end. That is how we made our periscope.

Today, 22nd March, year 6 made a periscope in science for our topic 'how eyes work'. We all had fun, but some worked in pairs and others alone. This is what we did...

Firstly, everybody was given the basic structure of the periscope on a piece of card to cut out. We cut out all of the grey squares, cut the sheet in half along the dotted line and finally cut through the slits so the mirrors could slot in. 

After that, we curled up the piece of card and stuck the two ends together. We did the same with the other sheet. 

Once both sheets were stuck, we slotted them both together and finally stuck mirrors to each end. Now we could use them!
